Watch this episode of This AS Life Live! below where Dan Reynolds sits down with Dr. Muhammad Asim Khan, a rheumatologist who has ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and advocate Amber Panagos, founder of SpondyMom, to discuss their AS diagnosis experiences, symptoms, and strategies for making the most of rheumatologist visits.
When reflecting on life with AS, Dr. Khan shares his personal philosophy: “Hurdles are meant to be overcome." Throughout his 62 years of living with the disease, Dr. Khan demonstrates this mantra well. He’s a self-trained artist (his self-portrait has been published), speaks several languages and travels extensively. Dr. Khan found his unique experience with AS challenging to put into words, but expressed himself through art with his portrait. Read more about Dr. Khan’s portrait here.

Like Dr. Khan, Amber’s personal interests have helped her overcome many hurdles of AS. She’s a disease advocate who uses her SpondyMom Facebook page to spread awareness of AS. She also enjoys baking and spending time with her two daughters and family dog.
